ABOUT US / WHO WE ARE
Amani Na Upendo Development Group is a Community Based Charitable Organisation. The organization was established in the year 2006, July 27th by Collins Odhiambo Agwanda while he was in form two at Kisumu Day High School. He work on entirely in a voluntarily basis with the poorest and neediest children in slums of Manyatta, Nyalenda, Obunga, Bandani and villages Otonglo in Kisumu City – Kenya.
Amani Na Upendo are Kiswahili words which means peace and love hence this makes us to provide children to engage in healthy disciplines, learn self respect and self confidence.
The volunteer run CBO was formed in response to the plight of orphans and the vulnerable children (OVCs). The key areas included illiteracy, HIV Aids awareness, feeding and environmental conservation. This was the predicament of the slum and vulnerable village child living in extremely deplorable conditions of utmost poverty with basic needs being a luxury.
Through successful implementation of various community education and development based programs, the CBO has been credited by the non residents and residents for its immense contribution in improving the welfare of hundreds of young people in the area through tailor-made programs. Its primary beneficiaries have been mainly the highly disadvantaged children and youth in the slum.
With the name being Amani Na Upendo (peace & Love) sport is the only way through which messages of peace, love and hope can be disseminated to the upcoming growing generation giving adults.
